The business recently received the fantastic news that we have won a retender exercise to supply Simulated Patients to The University of Plymouth for another 3 year contract with an additional 2 year option.
Following on from a record year for Peel Roleplay in 2024, this business win represents a significant step forward in our aim of cementing our position as one of the leading providers of SPs to the healthcare sector in the UK.
Peel Roleplay’s full service SP provision relationship with the University of Plymouth Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry commenced back in 2010, when they were the Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry, and we have been delighted to continue our long-standing relationship ever since. So, to win this re-tender exercise was also vindication of all the hard work the business have done in delivering a gold standard service to higher education institutions.
In the 15 years we have worked with The University of Plymouth, we have been required to take over and professionalise an existing cohort of Simulated Patients, we have developed and brought in numerous innovations and managed change across the School of Medicine and Dentistry, examples include; responding to and training for feedback model changes, and training a core team of highly experienced Simulated Patients so that they are now able to provide summative marks in assessments.
As we further develop our services and relationship with the university, Peel Roleplay are continually reviewing and training Simulated Patients, responding to the need for higher SP numbers as departments have grown and also developing new scenarios that benefit students of the various programmes on offer. Our team have also supported the university in running multi-site OSCEs and have also been fundamental in helping to develop and deliver the university’s communication skills curriculum. Some of our highly trained SPs also act as assessors of communication skills programmes run during the university’s annual ISCEs.
