Peel Roleplay

It’s no secret that the creation of immersive education and learning experiences is what we’re all about at Peel. It’s therefore wonderful when the work we are so passionate about delivering recognised with an award!

Last week, having been shortlisted in not one but two categories, we were delighted to attend the prestigious Children and Young People Now Awards at a glitzy ceremony in Hammersmith, London. Of our shortlisted categories (Digital Innovation and Safeguarding) we delighted to win The Digital Innovation Award.

The award was for our ‘Gamechanger’ blended learning initiative. Produced by the Peel team, Gamechanger programmes combine Virtual Reality technology with engaging drama and activity-based workshops to create unique blended-learning programmes that raise awareness and inspire change amongst young people around some of the UK’s biggest social issues.

Over the last two years those programmes have been delivered to young people in primary and secondary school settings, pupil referral units and alternative provisions throughout the UK. Through Gamechanger we seek to transform outcomes for young people equipping them with the knowledge and strategies to face hard-hitting realities they may face during their lives including Child Criminal Exploitation, County Lines and Knife Crime. We were therefore absolutely delighted to have our hard work recognised by the CYPN awards panel by winning The Digital Innovation Award.

Our cutting-edge 360° VR experience with branching narrative, decision-making elements and gamification demonstrated our extensive capabilities in designing and building immersive, interactive and impactful digital educational and learning experiences which is also being widely explored and increasingly adopted within the medicine and health simulation landscape.

After winning the award, MD, Jessica Wright said:

“Gamechanger is an outstanding collaborative partnership originally formed with the objective of using VR to reduce the risks of CCE involvement for young people. Five years after initial discussions, we have an incredible piece of integrated VR and are developing blended learning programmes for many other social issues affecting young people. Winning this award was a huge endorsement of all the hard work that has gone into this project and gives us further ambition and focus in terms of generating more immersive learning environments across the full landscape of sectors that we support.!”
